Publication Ethics & Malpractice Statement

Marine Research adheres to the highest standards of scholarly excellence, publishing original research articles with important theoretical insights and/or textual findings. Works involving plagiarism, duplicate submission, fabrication, ghostwriting, unrevealing conflicts of interests, and other inappropriate conduct are firmly rejected.

Marine Research adopts the publishing ethics guidelines recommended by Elsevier B.V., striving to publish high-quality, original, peer-reviewed research while upholding the highest ethical standards throughout the publication process. This process encompasses the active participation and responsibilities of authors, journal editors, and the publisher. The specific duties of each stakeholder are outlined below.

Duties of the Publisher

  • Guardianship of Scholarly Record: Supporting editors and reviewers in maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.
  • Editorial Independence: Ensuring that commercial revenues have no impact on editorial decisions.
  • Support: Providing editors with technical, procedural, and legal support in managing ethics cases.

Duties of Editors

  • Publication Decisions: Solely and independently responsible for deciding which articles should be published based on academic merit.
  • Fair Play: Evaluating manuscripts without regard to authors' race, gender, nationality, or political philosophy.
  • Confidentiality: Protecting the confidentiality of all submitted material and not using unpublished data for personal research.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Recusing themselves from considering manuscripts where they have a conflict of interest.

Duties of Reviewers

  • Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Assisting editors through objective peer review and helping authors improve their papers.
  • Promptness: Notifying the editor and declining the review if unable to complete it within the required timeframe.
  • Objectivity: Conducting reviews objectively with supporting arguments.
  • Vigilance: Identifying uncited relevant work and alerting the editor to suspected plagiarism.

Duties of Authors

  • Reporting Standards: Presenting an accurate account of original research and an objective discussion of its significance.
  • Originality and Plagiarism: Ensuring the work is entirely original and properly citing or quoting the work of others.
  • Citations and DOI Requirements: The journal encourages the use of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) as reference links as they provide a permanent link to the electronic article referenced.
  • Authorship: Limiting authorship to those who made significant contributions and ensuring all co-authors approved the final version.
  • Disclosure: Disclosing all financial or substantive conflicts of interest.
  • Notification of Errors: Promptly notifying the editor to retract or correct the paper if a significant error is discovered.
