Development of Recognition Technology for the Shoreline Extraction of Waisanding Sandbar in Satellite Images

    by Hsien-Kuo Chang, Wei-Wei Chen*, Jin-Cheng Liou, Yung-Fang Chiu , Wen-Chang Yang and Meng-Syue Li

    Abstract

The Waisanding sandbar has suffered from continuous beach erosion and is gradually disappearing. It is necessary and urgent to solve this problem under the homeland protection policy. We have provided a satellite-image-based solution for this problem. We found that the northern end of the Waisanding sandbar has been reduced by 2.1km in the past 15 years, and the southern end has been significantly shortened and rotated counterclockwise. Since 2011, the southern tip has been submerged in the wate...

Numerical Simulation of Dynamic Cable Used For Floating Offshore Substation

    by Yu-Chi Hung , Hung-Jie Tang , Chuan-Tsang Lee , Wai Wa Ng and Ray-Yeng Yang *

    Abstract

In this study, an area of relatively shallow waters (about 50 meters to 100 meters of water depth) was selected for the designing of a floating substation, and a barge type platform was used to provide sufficient space on the platform for the substation main body space configuration. A catenary mooring system was used to restrict the movement of the platform to a range, in order to avoid random drifting exposing nearby marine structures and navigation channels to danger. In terms of power transm...

Establishment of Computational Thinking in the Interdisciplinary Education of Offshore Foundation Engineering

    by Chao-Ming Chi *, Zheng-Shan Lin , Zhao-Sheng Xiao and Pu-Yuan Huang

    Abstract

To bridge the gap between learning and practice, the Ministry of Education of Taiwan has proposed educational thinking of "connecting compulsory courses with real engineering problems" to promote the New Engineering Education Method Experiment and Construction (NEEMEC) program. The offshore wind energy industry has rapidly developed in Taiwan, and this study intends to acquaint students with this industry. Because one requirement of the NEEMEC program is to develop new course handouts, the autho...

A Review of Species of the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific Genus Ctenogobius (Gobiiformes: Oxudercidae)

    by Frank L. Pezold *

    Abstract

The genus Ctenogobius Gill 1858 has had a confused history due to an inaccurate original description of the type species and lost type specimens. Many species were misassigned to the genus, especially from Asia. The genus was recently diagnosed by a unique combination of characters and restricted to the Atlantic and eastern Pacific regions. Fourteen species are redescribed here and a new species from Brazil is described. A single species, Ctenogobius lepturus occurs in estuaries of the eastern A...
